Official Customer Guide: Home Quarantine & Acclimation Protocols
Important Biosecurity Notice: Coastal Corals and Aquatics prioritizes transparent, healthy aquaculture. To
provide competitive local pricing and allow hobbyists absolute control over therapeutic regimes, we operate an
active observation setup locally but do not maintain a permanent commercial therapeutic quarantine cycle. We
strongly urge every customer to deploy the following home containment protocols prior to main reef display
introduction.

1. Home Quarantine Procedures (Recommended Setup)

Isolating your new fish prevents unwanted pathogens like Marine Ich, Marine Velvet, or flukes from devastating
an established reef system.

• Tank Setup: Dedicate a simple 10-gallon bare-bottom tank equipped with a heater, an air-driven sponge
filter, and a small air pump.
• Biological Filter: Keep a sponge filter mature in your main system or source premium nitrifying bacteria to
handle sudden bio-loads immediately.
• No Substrate or Coral Rocks: Avoid adding any sand, live rock, or aragonite substrate. These porous
materials absorb proactive medications like copper, lowering therapeutic counts.
• Shelter: Add several clean PVC pipe elbows or fittings to provide instant hiding locations and minimize
biological stress.
• Containment Window: Maintain a baseline observation period of 14 to 30 days before safely migrating your
fish over to your main reef aquarium.

2. Safe Acclimation Procedures

Proper water parameter matching reduces osmotic shock and protects delicate respiratory systems.

• Step 1: Float Phase: Dim your primary room lighting. Float the sealed transport plastic bag inside your
target quarantine tank for 15 to 20 minutes to equalize water temperatures completely.
• Step 2: Transfer Water: Carefully slice open the bag and pour the livestock alongside transit water into a
clean, dedicated acclimation bucket.
• Step 3: Establish Drip Line: Run flexible airline tubing from the quarantine tank down to the bucket.
Securely tie a loose manual knot along the line.
• Step 4: Regulate Osmotic Shift: Start a siphon and restrict flow by pulling the knot tighter until it reaches a
consistent frequency of 2 to 4 drops every second. Continue until the total bucket fluid volume doubles.
• Step 5: Netting & Release: Gently secure the specimen using a soft fine-mesh net or plastic specimen cup.
Carefully lower the fish into your quarantine tank system.
• Step 6: Isolation Strategy: Keep all aquarium lighting turned off completely for a minimum of 4 consecutive
hours to allow the animal to rest safely inside PVC structures.
• Biosecurity Alert: Never under any circumstances dump used transport bucket water directly into any of
your active home aquarium displays.
