Favites corals are hardy large polyp stony (LPS) corals.
Lighting
- Intensity: Aim for 100 to 200 PAR.
- Placement: Place your coral on the lower or middle sections of the rockwork.
- Acclimation: Move bright new colonies to lower spots first and raise them slowly over two weeks to prevent bleaching.
Water Flow
- Speed: Provide indirect, moderate water movement.
- Cleanliness: Ensure the flow sweeps detritus out of the skeletal valleys without tearing the soft tissue.
Feeding
- Diet: Offer small meaty foods like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or coral powders.
- Timing: Target-feed two to three times a week after the tank lights turn off for the best feeding response.

- Temperature: 75°F to 82°F (24°C to 28°C)
- Salinity: 1.024 to 1.026 SG (35 ppt)
- Alkalinity: 8.0 to 11.0 dKH
- Calcium: 420 to 450 ppm
- Magnesium: 1250 to 1350 ppm
- Nitrate: Under 10 ppm
- Phosphate: Under 0.05 ppm
Placement and Aggression
- Spacing: Leave 3 to 5 inches of space around the colony.
- Defense: Favites extend stinging sweeper tentacles at night to fight nearby neighbors.
