Diaseris and Fungia plate corals are unique large polyp stony (LPS) corals that need to be kept exclusively on a flat sandbed substrate rather than on rockwork.
Water Parameters
- Temperature: 76–80°F
- Salinity: 1.025–1.026
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Calcium: 400–450 ppm
- Alkalinity: 8–10 dKH
- Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm
Placement and Flow
- Placement: Place them flat on the sandbed. Avoid sharp rocks, because shifting or falling off rockwork can tear their delicate flesh, leading to tissue recession and infection.
- Water Flow: Provide low to moderate, indirect flow. The flow should be enough to prevent detritus from settling on the coral, but not strong enough to damage its tissue against the skeleton.
Lighting
- Lighting: Moderate to high lighting is generally recommended, roughly 75–200 PAR depending on acclimation. Ensure you adapt them slowly to high-intensity LED or metal halide setups.
Feeding
- Diet: While they are photosynthetic, they are active hunters and benefit greatly from regular spot-feeding using large meaty foods like mysis shrimp, krill, or LPS pellets
