Alveopora
Quick Care Overview
- Care Level: Moderate (easier than Goniopora)
- Lighting: Low to moderate (50–150 PAR)
- Water Flow: Moderate and indirect (polyps should gently sway)
- Placement: Low on the rockwork or directly on the sandbed
- Temperament: Peaceful/non-aggressive
Optimal Water Parameters
- Temperature: 75°F – 78°F (or up to 80°F stable)
- Salinity: 1.025 – 1.026
- Alkalinity: 8 – 9 dKH
- Calcium: 400 – 450 ppm
- Magnesium: 1280 – 1350 ppm
- Nitrate: 5 – 10 ppm
- Phosphate: 0.05 – 0.1 ppm
Lighting & Placement
- Place your Alveopora in the lower to middle sections of your aquarium.
- Provide a PAR range between 50 and 150.
- Avoid overly intense, direct light, which can bleach or damage the delicate flesh.
Water Flow
- Aim for a moderate, randomized, and indirect water movement.
- The daisy-like polyps should sway freely in the current without slamming against the skeleton.
- Avoid heavy, direct flow, which causes the coral to retract its polyps.
Feeding
- Alveopora are photosynthetic but thrive with supplemental target feeding.
- Feed fine particulate foods like microplankton, baby brine shrimp, or phytoplankton 1 to 3 times per week.
- Avoid overfeeding, as excess nutrients can trigger algae blooms or bacterial issues in the tank.
