Bubble Coral
$100.00
Bubble coral (Plerogyra sinuosa) is a large polyp stony (LPS) coral.
Lighting
- Keep lighting at a moderate level (around 50 to 150 PAR).
- Place the coral initially on the sand bed and slowly photo-acclimate it to avoid light shock.
- Too much intense light can damage or bleach the coral.
Water Flow
- Provide low to medium indirect water flow.
- Avoid direct, heavy currents that can tear the delicate fleshy tissue away from the hard skeleton.
- Gentle movement should just lightly jiggle the bubbles.
Feeding
- Bubble corals are photosynthetic via zooxanthellae, but benefit greatly from weekly direct target feedings.
- Offer meaty foods like mysid shrimp, brine shrimp, or chopped seafood using a turkey baster or pipette.
- Feeding at night when long sweeper tentacles emerge can improve acceptance.
Tank Placement & Temperament
- Place the coral on the middle or bottom levels (such as the sand bed) of your reef aquarium.
- Leave 3 to 4 inches of space between the bubble coral and neighboring corals.
- They deploy long, aggressive sweeper tentacles at night that can sting nearby tankmates.
Water Parameters
- Temperature: 72°F to 78°F (78°F is ideal).
- Salinity: 1.023 to 1.025.
- pH: 8.1 to 8.4.
- Alkalinity (dKH): 8 to 12 (keep extremely stable).
- Calcium: 400 to 450 ppm to support skeleton growth and healing.
