Torch corals (Euphyllia glabrescens) are popular large-polyp stony (LPS) corals known for their long, swaying tentacles and bright, glowing tips. They have an intermediate care level and thrive best in established marine aquariums with stable water chemistry.

Water Parameters
  • Temperature: 76–80°F
  • Salinity (Specific Gravity): 1.025–1.026
  • pH: 8.1–8.4
  • Alkalinity: 8–12 dKH (stability is more critical than the exact number)
  • Calcium: 380–450 ppm
  • Magnesium: 1200–1400 ppm
  • Nitrate: 5–15 ppm (they do poorly in zero-nutrient/ultra-low systems)
  • Phosphate: 0.03–0.10 ppm
Lighting and Flow
  • Lighting: Medium intensity (roughly 100 to 250 PAR) works best for most varieties. Acclimate new arrivals slowly starting lower in the tank (75–100 PAR) to avoid bleaching.
  • Water Flow: Moderate to strong, indirect and randomized flow. The tentacles should sway smoothly in the current without being blasted or stripped against the skeleton.
Placement and Aggression
  • Placement: Secure the coral base directly onto the rockwork in the lower to middle third of the aquarium. Avoid placing them on the sand bed, as shifting sand can abrade their delicate flesh and cause tissue recession.
  • Spacing: Torch corals possess long sweeper tentacles that extend significantly, especially at night, and can pack a powerful sting against neighboring corals. Leave several inches of clearance between them and other species.
