Favia brain corals are hardy, slow-growing Large Polyp Stony (LPS) corals.

Optimal Water Parameters
  • Temperature: 75–82°F (78°F is ideal)
  • Salinity: 1.024–1.026 SG
  • pH: 8.1–8.4
  • Alkalinity: 8–11 dKH
  • Calcium: 400–450 ppm
  • Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm
  • Nitrate / Phosphate: Keep nitrates under 10 ppm and phosphates under 0.05 ppm to prevent algae overgrowth. Stability is more crucial than chasing exact numbers.
Lighting and Flow Requirements
  • Lighting: Keep them at 50–150 PAR (low to medium light). Too much light causes bleaching. Acclimate new pieces in shadier spots if your tank has intense lights.
  • Water Flow: Provide a low-to-moderate, indirect flow. High current damages their fleshy tissue and stops them from feeding properly.
Feeding and Placement
  • Feeding: Target feed them 2–3 times a week after lights out using small meaty foods like mysis shrimp or micro-plankton. Turn off your wavemakers during feeding so the food stays put.
  • Placement & Spacing: Place them on stable rockwork in the lower-to-middle section of the aquarium. Leave 3 to 6 inches of space between them and other corals. Favia possess aggressive nighttime sweeper tentacles that can sting neighboring corals.
